A professional internship allows you to enrich your experience and is sometimes required or highly recommended in order to complete your degree.
The ELAN project gives you the opportunity to expand your internship options and discover the working environement of another country in the region, while strengthening your language skills.
Students who carry out an internship in one of the partner countries can apply for a mobility grant of 700 € per month, a one-time flat-rate travel subsidy and administrative support.
By undertaking an internship in the Caribbean, you will be able to:
- Enrich your CV with an international component and with personal and professional skills that will facilitate your integration into the labour market
- Discover another country, its economic, social and cultural environment and its professional practices
- Expand your internship options with companies abroad
- Travel to a nearby destination and gain exposure to an international environment
- Improve your language skills
- Increase your knowledge of nearby Caribbean countries
- Benefit from support with ELAN
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for an internship mobility grant in the Caribbean you must:
- Be enrolled in a Community College in the OECS, a lycée (high school) or higher education institution in Martinique, or one of the ELAN partner univiersities.
- Have signed an internship agreement with a host organization in the target country of the cooperation zone determined by ELAN. The application for the internship mobility grant is only open to:
- Students from the Université des Antilles in Martinique or Guadeloupe as well as vocational and higher education students from the Académie de Martinique, taking part in a mobility programme in one of the English-speaking OECS countries, Barbados, Jamaica, Haiti or Trinidad and Tobago,
- students from Community Colleges of the OECS, from UWI, UEH or UniQ and Technical & Vocational Training students from the English-speaking countries of ELAN or Haiti taking part in a mobility programme in Martinique or Guadeloupe
- Plan your internship mobility of minimum one month and maximum 6 months in the host country.
A minimum level of B1 in the language of the target country is strongly recommended. A linguistic and cultural awareness preparation course will be proposed to the beneficiaries of the internship mobility grant, in partnership with their home institution. We invite eligible students to participate!
Procedure
Step 1
Find an internship abroad by consulting the offers available in the Caribbean.
Your home institution may also be able to assist you in finding an internship in the region. (University students should contact their Career Services or the Office of International Student Services. Vocational and higer education students of the Académie de Martinique should contact DDFPT (Director of Vocational and Technical Training) of their institution or the International Relations delegate, or relevant teachers at your institution.)
Step 2
Apply for the internship that you are interested in by sending your CV and cover letter to the manager of the enterprise/ organization with the assistance of the appropriate services available at your home institution. Be sure to follow up on the applications sent.
Step 3
Once your internship has been accepted, you can apply for a mobility grant by filling in the online mobility grant application form.

Higher education and vocational students from the instititutions of the Académie de Martinique must submit their documents through their home institution.
Please note that the pages with your signature must be returned scanned. Ensure that the form is properly filled in, signed and that it is submitted along with the required documents at least 2 months before your scheduled departure.
Step 5
A Selection Committee will evaluate your application and you will be informed of the decision via email without delay.
